BOTOX®

WHAT IS BOTOX®?
Botox® is short for botulinum toxin, a muscle-relaxing agent and is marketed by Allergan, the company that makes Botox®. So, botox is actually a trademark licensed to be used with reference to Allergan.

HOW DOES BOTOX WORK®?
Botox® works by binding to the facial muscles, thus preventing wrinkle formation. The effects are ofter dramatic. It is injected into the muscles, where it enters the nerve endings to block the release the neurotransmitters (in this case, acetylcholine). Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, producing a natural and relaxed appearance.

Areas that can be treated include your forehead, between the eyes, and on the lines on the side of the eyes (also known as crow's feet).

Note: Subject has been asked to scrunch forehead

Note: Subject has been asked to squint eyes

WHAT ARE THE GLABELLAR (Frown) LINES?
Glabellar (Frown) lines are the wrinkles between the eyebrows caused by the contraction of facial muscles (in this case, the corrugator and/or procerus muscles).

HOW ARE WRINKLES OR FINE LINES FORMED ?
Movement of the facial muscles, i.e. raising your eyebrow (commonly done during talking or reading or looking up) can cause the skin to crease and form wrinkles. As skin ages and becomes less elastic over time, repeated contraction of these muscles may create visible lines and wrinkles- even when the muscles are at rest.

IS THERE A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TREATMENTS ?
No, you can have more treatments to keep your skin smooth for years. Please call for an appointment for Botox® and to find out more about the other benefits of botox.
