ABOUT MESOTHERAPY
Mesotherapy is a treatment where medication is injected into the mesoderm (layer of tissue under the skin where the fat is). Mesotherapy was invented in 1952 by Dr. Michel Pistor in France and over 15,000 physicians world-wide have been trained. Mesotherapy was recently introduced in the United Stated around 2001.
Dr. Yuen is the first doctor to provide Mesotherapy in Northern California (there are a 2- 3 doctors in Southern California as of January 2004) and have treated many patients with desirable results.
Mesotherapy can be used for overall weight loss, cellulite (dimples in the skin most commonly seen in the thighs), and spot weight reduction (focus on one area of the body).
Like any fat reduction treatment, mesotherapy will not work if you do not follow a healthy diet. If you plan to go to buffet restaurants after each treatment, you are out of luck. You must watch your carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice, sugar) and eat a balanced diet. Taking one multivitamin a day is recommened.
Exercise will also be recommended to you because excercise increases blood flow. The increased blood flow will move the medication (from the mesotherapy treatment) around the target areas and thus produce the best results.
WHO CAN GET MESOTHERAPY?
Adults between the ages of 18 & 75 are good candidates. Mesotherapy is not recommeded for anyone who is pregnant, on blood thinners (or have bleeding problems), insulin-dependent diabetes, circulation problems, severe heart disease or cancer.

HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED FOR EACH TREATMENT?
Depending on areas covered, you can expect to be in the office from 15 minutes to 1 hour.
IS TEHRE A RECOVERY TIME?
There is no down time, which means that you can go back to work or go to vacation. Since we are using a needle, you should realize that there is a chance of bruising, but the bruising is minimal and nothing compared to liposuction (see comparison below).
WHEN CAN I EXPECT RESULTS?
You can feel the medication working within 10 to 15 minutes! How fast it takes you to reach your goal will depend on how you are at baseline and how much improvement you are seeking. The more improvement (weight loss) you seek, the more treatments you need. On average, your target goal can be achieved with as few as 3 treatments but may need up to 10 treatments, depending on the size of the area being treated.
